Role purpose:

 

The purpose of the Release Management to plan, design, manage, and co-ordinate all changes to the production and all non-production environments, track metrics, own release management process improvement with established testing best practices, issue resolution and quality assurance.

 

The role of the Release Management Consultant is responsible for enabling, coordinating, and maintaining the information flow between Release Management and Project Management Office (PMO), Project Managers (PMs), SAP Operations and SAP Solutioning team (Centre of Excellence) therefore ensure that all planned and ongoing project receives the required information regarding the release framework and release calendar, system availability, planned downtimes.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Design, coordinate, facilitate and execute the Release Management process for SAP S4 HANA Releases
  • Apply a process for management and tracking of business change requests (CR’s).  All CR’s received from business should be analyzed, categorized, prioritized and tracked. These should then be assigned to an appropriate release.
  • Working with the various projects/teams in the release to coordinate and plan the technical deployments of the various solutions and third-party applications on the different landscapes established for both project and maintenance (BAU) streams
  • Provide process guidance to the projects/teams on SAP Transports and Tools including Solution Manager and Change Request Management (ChaRM).
  • Working with the Functional and Development teams to support SAP Transport processes and the related Change Controls are appropriately applied.
  • Working with the Project teams to support cutover processes, communicate the changes and analyses the impact to discuss with the System Managers
  • Support the execution of the Regression Tests by ensuring that there is appropriate planning incorporated for every project to count with Regression testing. Ensure that all PMs understand the importance of regression testing and align their plans accordingly.
  • Communicate the release schedule for both roll out projects and live units
  • Create and maintain the release calendar
  • Active partner / driver in continuous improvement of the release management process to increase effectiveness and organizational conformance.
  • Establishes and/or maintains metrics/reporting regarding release content and effectiveness
  • Provide periodic KPIs and metrics to senior management of performance against current SLAs.

 

Requirements:

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in Release Management or change management OR (as a project manager or deployment lead)
  • Degree in IT or Engineering
  • Good understanding of Prince 2 project management principles and their practical use in a global multinational environment
  • Good understanding on project phases, test cycles, entry and exit gate criteria management
  • Managed ITIL processes (especially Change and Deployment) in an global environment
  • Experience in SAP is an advantage
  • Demonstrable knowledge of project lifecycle management
  • Process driven personality
  • Strong planning capabilities
  • Strong internal drive and motivation to push issue resolution and follow up properly
  • Ability to assertively communicate in a multinational environment considering potential cultural differences
  • Basic technical understanding of S4 HANA environment, especially in the area of transport management is an advatage
  • Solution Manager CHaRM experience is an advantage
