The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (R&D Level 3) to join the HVDC Valve Development team at Hitachi Energy Sweden AB in Ludvika. This role is ideal for a technically driven engineer with a strong academic background who wants to contribute to the future of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology. You will focus on electrical design and integration of high-power capacitors in converter valves — ensuring system reliability, performance, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of HVDC converter valves, focusing on capacitor integration within valve cells.
• Perform design calculations, circuit simulations, and stress analyses on electrical components.
• Specify, select, and qualify high-voltage capacitors for power electronics applications.
• Collaborate with mechanical, insulation, control, and system design teams to ensure seamless component integration.
• Work closely with Hitachi Energy Research and capacitor suppliers on strategic R&D initiatives.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, test plans, and validation reports.
• Participate in high-voltage validation and reliability testing in lab environments.
• Document and present R&D findings internally and externally.
• Contribute to design reviews and digitalization initiatives.

Your Background

• PhD or Master's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or a related field).
• Strong academic and analytical background; research experience is highly valued.
• Expertise in capacitor technologies for HVDC applications.
• Solid understanding of power electronics and converter systems.
• Experience with dielectric materials and passive components in high-voltage environments.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering is an advantage.
• Proven ability to lead or participate in R&D projects.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Minimum requirements of education and experience:

• Minimum six (6) years of work experience within the relevant field and a bachelor or master's degree, or
• Another technical degree with more than 15 years of work experience within relevant field.
• Working command of the English language.
