We are looking for passionate software engineers for our Streaming Platform Engineering Team in Budapest. Our team is responsible for the development of Streams Messaging products of Cloudera (featuring Kafka, Schema Registry, Replication Manager and several other components related to streaming) and making it easily usable by the customers of our platform. Kafka is a general purpose distributed messaging/streaming technology designed for low latency, high throughput, massive scalability and high reliability. Kafka is the fundamental streaming technology in our platform, frequently used together with Apache Flink, Spark and NiFi to ingest, process and analyze large scale message streams.

As a software engineer, you will be working in a team of software engineers in our modern office in the center of Budapest collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders in Hungary, the United States and other countries around the globe.

As a Software Engineer you will…

• Expertize in the Kafka ecosystem, identify improvement areas and define a roadmap to make Kafka more feature-rich, more robust and more supportable resulting in an enterprise grade distribution of Kafka for our customers
• Extend monitoring, management capabilities of our platform as well as integrate with other components (like Flink, Spark, NiFi, etc.) to make Kafka robust and easy to adopt
• Develop our big data and large scale streaming data processing platforms targeting on-premise, cloud and hybrid customer environments.
• Analyze complex requirements, collaborate with other engineers internally and in the open source community from around the world to design and implement solutions
• Focusing on both functional and non-functional aspects and deliver high-quality products using agile software development lifecycle practices
• Help troubleshooting customer issues, find the root cause of complex technical problems and provide guidance to system engineers for fixing those in production systems
• Help customers adopting new versions of our software
• Learn continuously to build an extensive knowledge about the Kafka ecosystem, large scale stream processing technologies and become the go-to person in a wide range of questions related to the technology
• Demonstrate an open, agile mindset, suggest and implement ideas to continuously improve processes used by the team in a collaborative manner

We are excited if you have…

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related technical field
• 2+ years of experience in designing and developing software solutions
• Experience in designing, implementing and debugging multithreaded and distributed systems
• Expertise with Java development
• Experience with cloud native application and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCE)
• Experience with private cloud technologies and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Analytical mindset to be able to quickly understand large, distributed software systems
• Experience with delivery pipeline tools, CI/CD solutions
• Self-driven, proactive and motivated personality, with the ability to effectively work on loosely defined tasks and make sound, risk-aware decisions based on partial information
• Ability to clearly communicate and present your ideas effectively to a wide audience
• Ability to work independently as well as working collaboratively in a team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

You might also have...

• Experience with Kafka or other distributed messaging technology (e.g. RabbitMQ)
• Development experience with Scala and/or Python
• Good understanding of the Hadoop ecosystem
• Experience in open source software development
