What to Expect:

Before the Big Day submit your application and take a test. During Big Day Engage in at least two interviews equivalent to our first round of the selection process. Successful candidates will be invited to the second round, which is scheduled for September 10. Expect a decision within 48 hours post-interview BCG interviews are based on case solving for which you need some preparation in advance. You will get all the necessary support to prepare for it once you submit your application.



What You'll Do

As an Associate Consultant at BCG, you'll play a pivotal role in collaborative teams, identifying, developing, and implementing solutions for client challenges. Projects can vary in length, size, and location, depending on the clientâs challenge. Because our clients operate all over the world, you may travel internationally. Youâll embark on a journey of exploration and innovation, pushing the boundaries to drive impactful change.

 

Location: Based in Budapest/Zagreb/Ljubljana/Bucharest

Who can apply? 

 

Graduates and young professionals who speak Romanian/Serbian/Croatian/Slovenian next to English. Applicants must have at least one year of working experience. Your background is not that relevant as far as you have a diverse experience and proven track record of outstanding results in your previous jobs and studies. We want to meet candidates who are self-driven, constantly up for improving themselves and their environment, open to new challenges and who are striving to make an impact. What do I need to know about the interviews at BCG? 

 

Our interview process is aimed at getting to know you personally, learning more about 

your analytical capabilities and introducing you to our people and our work. We 

assess your ability to listen, communicate effectively, and present yourself with energy, 

persuasiveness, and tact. We look for intellectual curiosity and creative thinking. And 

sometimes, we just want to find out what it would be like to spend a week on the 

road with you, working together on a client project. Our interviewers value a sense of 

humor and a bit of "sparkle" in your personality. 

 

Typically, we divide an interview into three parts: 

  1. Your personal background (10â15min.)
  2. A case study (20â25min.)
  3. An opportunity for you to ask questions about us (5â10min.)

 

What is a case study? 

 

Case studies help us gain insight into how you might approach and analyze a typical business issue. We want to assess your problem-solving capabilities, analytics, and business judgment. We find that case studies are the best way to evaluate this. Because the case will likely be based on a real client project your interviewer has worked on, you will get a unique glimpse of what strategy consulting at BCG is like. 

 

The case study will feature a business problem that you and the interviewer will seek to solve together. It will not require extensive knowledge of specific industries or processes, and our cases often do not have right or wrong answers. Your thought processes are more important to us than coming up with the perfect solution. Since candidates typically find the case study to be the most challenging, we have gathered a few tips to help you prepare and show the best of your capabilities. 

 

Do I need to prepare for the interviews? How can I prepare? 

 

It is important to prepare for the interview as you will need to solve several cases during the interviews. 

 

You should expect a fast-moving and iterative two-way discussion with additional series of questions that require formal answers. 

 

We suggest these steps for you to prepare: 

 

  • Take the time to read the dos and donâts presented in the next section.
  • Visit our website and go through the case interview presented there. It contains typical questions and an evaluation of different possible answers. You may also want to use commercially available case practice material, although you should be wary of overly simplistic or formulaic guides: Case study experiences are likely to vary a lot, even from one BCG interview to the next. 
  • Simulate a case interview with friends or family, alternating between the role of interviewer and candidate. 
  • Be authentic and enjoy the discussion of the case. If you find the experience stimulating and enjoyable, you're probably going to appreciate a consulting role at BCG.

 

Dos and donâts for the case study  

 

Do 

  • Listen to the interviewer and ask questions. 
  • The interviewer will begin by laying out the problem. You should take time to align your thinking, ask clarifying questions, and communicate your line of reasoning to your interviewer. The interviewer will also give you hints and help along the way, so don't be afraid to take notes. 
  • Structure the problem and develop a framework to solve it. 
  • Take a moment to think about the case to gain perspective. Putting together a structure and a framework will help you clarify each step and enable you to identify the analysis you may want to perform to reach a solution. 
  •  Focus on high-impact issues. 
  • Concentrate on the issues that will really make a difference and create value for your âclient", but make sure that you explain the reasons behind your choices.  
  • Generate a hypothesis and explore options creatively. 
  • Make suggestions on how to solve the key issues you have identified. The interviewer will be looking for the same things a BCG client would expect when working with us innovative approaches that can change the rules of the game and create lasting competitive advantage. 
  • Synthesize thoughts and draw conclusions from your analysis.
  • At the end of the interview, you should summarize the key hypotheses and options you have developed. Then, conclude with your recommended solution to the clientâs problem.

Donât 

  •  Don't rush into the analysis without developing an understanding of the problem. 
  • During the discussion, the interviewer will work with you to organize your thoughts and steer you toward a solution. Don't be afraid to ask questions that check your understanding. 
  •  Don't panic if the answer is not apparent. 
  • There is no right or wrong answer in our interviews, and you are not expected to know everything about business. The objective of the interview is for us to learn about your approach to solving business problems, so remember to discuss your line of thought with the interviewer. 
  • Don't defend your solution at all costs. 
  • If the interviewer challenges the solution you propose, donât go on the defensive. 
  • Acknowledge the possibility that the interviewer has brought up a relevant perspective that you had not considered and reexamine your thinking accordingly. Take hints as valuable tips since we want you to succeed. 
  • Don't internalize your thought process. 
  • The interview should be a dialog between you and the interviewer, so make sure you communicate your logic and underlying assumptions. 
  • Don't stick to an artificial framework. 
  • Standard frameworks you have learned in school may appear relevant, but they may not hold up after closer consideration.
