Job Description:

We are looking for a visionary Director, Applied Science to lead a significant science organization. You will define the long-term direction for AI/ML applied science experiments, utilizing science forecasting to identify future trends. You will be fully accountable for the evolution of experiments to AI/ML product features across the business unit, ensuring innovations drive P&L performance. As an executive leader, you will influence the industry by presenting relevant inventions and science white papers to the highest levels of leadership and at global conferences.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Executive Strategy: Own and direct a significant business function, setting the strategy for scientific innovation and competitive advantage.
  • P&L Accountability: Drive the evolution of experiments to AI/ML product features to achieve business unit KPIs and revenue targets.
  • Industry Influence: Represent the organization's scientific achievements by presenting relevant inventions and science white papers to the Board and external bodies.
  • Talent Strategy: Develop senior managers and Principal-level talent, ensuring a world-class scientific leadership bench.
  • Science Forecasting: Utilize science forecasting to identifying new opportunities for AI/ML applied science experiments (e.g., Quantum ML, AGI).
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee financial performance, budget adherence, and M&A evaluation for science capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience: Extensive experience leading large, complex science organizations and driving significant business results.
  • Strategy: Expertise in long-range strategic planning (3-5 years) and science forecasting.
  • Financials: Advanced financial management skills (P&L ownership).
  • Executive Presence: Experience presenting to C-level executives and Boards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry-recognized authority in Applied Science/AI.
  • Proven track record of turning a research org into a profit center.
  • Experience leading global, multi-site research teams.
