The Senior Methods Specialist Data Science is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of machine learning-based components of the products in the area of airline scheduling and network planning and all other Lufthansa Systems products. He/she performs very varied tasks of high complexity and responsibility, which are directly related to the core processes of an airline's operations. In addition to the field of application "Data Science", he/she also uses his/her knowledge in the field of quantitative methods for the further development of optimization products.

Your role will be

• Cross-team management and conceptual design of projects for the implementation of machine learning and AI-supported models as well as business intelligence solutions such as e.g. Dashboards and automated reporting functionalities
• Conception of product solutions and implementation of the data processing processes ("data pipelines") necessary for the productive use of the above-mentioned functionalities, including the use of cloud-based services
• Identification and analysis of functional and non-functional requirements for software and infrastructure as well as development and implementation of corresponding measures
• Development and implementation of detailed solutions in cooperation with other colleagues and units involved in a guiding role
• Conceptual design, maintenance and further development of the responsible components (forecasting models, processes and scripts, data preparation and modeling, use of tools, etc.)
• Implementation of product implementation projects including on-site support for customers
• Conception and implementation of specialist customer workshops and presentations
• Processing and management of customer inquiries and complex service requests
• Maintenance of product- and customer-specific technical documents and information
• Independent recording and analysis of user requirements as well as expert advice and support in the description of change requests
• Advice and instruction of software developers, product consultants, product experts, application operations and, if necessary, customer representatives with regard to aspects of the architecture and functionality of the responsible components
• Professional representation of the responsible area of competence at specialist conferences and forums
• Implementation of training measures for customers
• If necessary, performance of tasks and activities for technical and component-related support in the sales process
• Assumption of special tasks

You will be successful if you have

• Completed relevant studies or (international) degree (e.g. in mathematics) with several years of professional experience; alternatively: completed relevant training with several years of professional experience or, in individual cases, proven equivalent theoretical and practical competence through appropriate further training as well as relevant professional experience
• Advanced proficiency in both written and spoken English.
• Outstanding knowledge in the field of statistics and data science as well as practical experience in the field of predictive data analytics (statistical and machine learning based algorithms and forecasting models)
• Very good knowledge in the application of mathematical methods for the modelling and optimization of operational planning issues in the field of air traffic (prescriptive analytics)
• Good knowledge of the programming
  languages R
  and
  Python
• Knowledge of common IT technologies for the application of predictive/prescriptive analytics in productive operations (e.g.
  CI/CD, Docker, cloud environments
  )
• Knowledge of project management
• Knowledge and practical experience in the analysis and documentation of requirements
• Knowledge of the core processes of airlines desirable
• Ability to lead employees
