DEPARTMENT:  Hotel Department 

REPORTING TO:  Hotel Manager 

WORKING LOCATION:  The workplace is on board the vessels managed by Scylla Gastro

Qualification and Profile

• Preferably experienced within the hotel industry and/or previous (river) cruise ship experience. 

• Excellent organizational and communication skills with the friendly and positive approach

• Outstanding verbal communication, listening and telephone skills

• Stress resistant, calm under pressure, resilient, team player and with positive approach

• Open minded and flexible with high social, interpersonal and cultural competencies

• Problem-solving skills and reliability 

• Attention to detail with strong customer service skill

• Excellent English skills (written & verbal), other languages as German are an advantage.

• Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PPT)

• Being representative of Scylla´s values 

Key Responsibilities and Duties ​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​ 

➢ Professional management of reception during the night

➢ Co-operation with the front desk of any issues occurred during the night

➢ Assist the reception with special jobs if necessary

➢ Hourly security patrols through the ship with several check points

➢ Supervision of the vessel against unauthorized access 

➢ Responsible for an secured/locked entrance if the ship is docked

➢ Responsible for the safety of the ship against burglary and theft

➢ Responsible for the correct lighting on the ship during the night

➢ Answering telephone calls and respond to guests request and complaints

➢ Take and carry out personal wake up calls by telephone

➢ Deliver and distribute the daily (internet) newspapers to the guests and departments per charter 

needs 

​​​​​​​➢ Responsible for the set-up of the early riser breakfast

➢ Support of Internet for the guests

➢ Storing empty bottles in their specific crates intended in the designated area in a well-organized 

manner 

➢ Assist with collecting and separate garbage bags from the mess room in compliance with Scylla 

hygienic concept and HACCP regulations

➢ Removing food left over from the waste bins in the mess room

➢ Shred and dispose of non-returnable bottles 

➢ Check the temperatures of the fridges/freezers in the kitchen, bistro and the restaurant

➢ Hoover the Lounge area each night

➢ Control of both engine rooms on oil and water leaks

➢ Orderly handover of work to the next shift

➢ Responsible for cleanliness within the reception area, lobby and entrance in cooperation with the 

housekeeping department

➢ Assist with housekeeping duties such an ironing the bed linen during the afternoon (2-3 hours per 

day) in the laundry depending on the charter 

➢ Knowledge of the ship and the respective daily program

➢ Professional and friendly guest service according to Scylla standard

​​​​​​​➢ Additional tasks: participating/assisting with the loading, carrying the suitcases, keeping clean the

messroom and your own cabin on daily basis  

➢ Your purpose is to help and create a memorable experience for our guests

➢ Accommodation: shared room on board with one other crewmember (on some ships with more than 

one)

➢ Uniform: is provided by the company: before arrival the crewmember has to make sure to take black 

trousers, white shirts, black shoes with him in case the uniform isn't on board yet

➢ Demonstrate a good safety awareness and participation in the safety drills ​​​​​​​

Contract type: Swiss/Unlimited

Gross / Net salary: € 2600,00 / 1959,85

Vacation days: 90 free days per calendar year pro rata (= 7.5 days per month pro rata) 

Tip money: fixed and included in the salary
