POSITION:    Hotel Manager

DEPARTMENT:  Hotel Department 

REPORTING TO:  Hotel Operations Manager

WORKING LOCATION:  The workplace is on board the vessels managed by Scylla Gastro

Qualification and Profile ​​​​​  

• Several years of management experience in this role with an outstanding and proven management

skills and extensive hands-on experience 

• Excellent leadership, management, organizational and active communication skills

• Preferably graduated within hotel industry and/or previous (river) cruise ship experience

• Strong understanding of hotel management best practices

• Strong hotel department knowledge and experience as well as an outstanding F&B knowledge and 

skills

• Able to train crew members in each area of hotel operation, able to build up the trainings 

• Guest focused, stress resistant, calm under the pressure, resilient and team player with positive 

approach

• Professional attitude and appearance, reliable and hard-working with great team spirit

• Open minded and flexible with high social, interpersonal and cultural competencies

• To act as dynamic motivator and onboard ambassador for the Hotel Operations Department through 

Leadership&Management by example

• Excellent English skills (written & verbal), other languages as German is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities and Duties ​​​​​​​ 

​​​​​​​
• Ensure full compliance with Scylla standards, SOP´s policies and procedures

• Responsibility for the entire hotel operation on board and guarantee fullest guest satisfaction and 

pleasant working environment for all crew

• Ensure that monthly financial outlooks for F&B, hotel material etc. are on target and accurate  

 ​​​​​​​ 

• Executing all aspects of planning and organizing of upcoming cruises for the Hotel Departments 

• Consulting with Captain and Head of Department on board activities or any other aspects of onboard 

operation

• Handling complaints, and oversee the service recovery procedure

• Ensure all decisions are made in the best interest of high guest /crew satisfaction

• Developing improvements actions based on outcome of questionnaires, guest-crew feedback, 

financial reports

• Responsible for the entire hotel operation on board and day-to-day staff management and guests

• Coordinating all crew matters by establishing efficient communication between the ship and office

• Responsible for the stock ordering for the hotel department such as beverages, food, chemicals, 

amenities, shop-, wellness-, office supplies and hardware in hotel department

• Closely monitor the reports on a daily basis and take decisions accordingly 

o Working with the numbers on daily basis, sharing the knowledge with HoD's and working

on revenue overview/upselling/reducing stock/correct calculating etc.

• Coordination with Head of Departments for the smooth operation of all activities and functions

• Final responsibility for: 

o flawless cleanliness and compliance of Scylla for hygienic concept according HACCP

regulations as well as regular general cleaning in all departments  

o correct flow of information within all the departments 

o professional communications and cooperation with Cruise director, Captain and with 

colleagues from the offices

o the whole documentation and the administration tasks

o the waste concept

o the inventories and the orders on time /deadline given by office/

o the conduct, control, and quality of the trainings, held regularly by the HoD's based on Scylla 

standards

o the good working atmosphere and teamwork between all departments

o supporting and recognizing the potential of the crew (future hiring/firing/no rehire)

o for the final appearance (grooming, uniform, nametag etc) of the crew, board language and 

smooth communication

o together with Chef for healthy and varied crew meals in correct times

o the compliance with safety guidelines in the hotel area

o final outcome, ratings and guest´s satisfaction on board

o for the financial results regarding revenue and costs 

• Being present as Hotel manager and as a Leader leading by an example

• Being an example for the crew, supportive and having an open-door policy

• Educating in terms of leadership, emotional intelligence and understanding different cultures

• Ensure that onboarding is implemented 

• Conducting the evaluation dialogues ad performance appraisals for crew on board 

• Overseeing the vacation plan for crew 

• Promoting Scylla values and goals by effectively communicating the company vision and expectations

• Training, coaching, mentoring and developing team members

​​​​​​​➢ Additional tasks: participating/assisting with the loading, carrying the suitcases, keeping clean the

messroom and your own cabin on daily basis  

➢ Your purpose is to help and create a memorable experience for our guests

➢ Accommodation: shared room on board with one other crewmember (on some ships with more than 

one)

➢ Uniform: is provided by the company: before arrival the crewmember has to make sure to take black 

trousers, white shirts, black shoes with him in case the uniform isn't on board yet

➢ Demonstrate a good safety awareness and participation in the safety drills

Contract type: Swiss/Unlimited

Gross / Net salary: To be negotiated

Vacation days: 90 free days per calendar year pro rata (= 7.5 days per month pro rata) 

Tip money: fixed and included in the salary
